Holidays and Celebrations

One of my favorite holidays is New Year’s Eve. I love this holiday because it marks the beginning of a new year filled with hope and possibilities. My family and I celebrate it by preparing a festive dinner, which includes traditional dishes like Olivier salad and herring under a fur coat. As the clock approaches midnight, we gather around the table, make a toast, and watch the fireworks outside. It’s a magical moment when we all share our wishes for the coming year.

In my culture, a special tradition that I enjoy is the celebration of Maslenitsa, also known as Pancake Week. This holiday takes place in late winter and symbolizes the end of winter and the arrival of spring. Families come together to make and eat pancakes, which represent the sun. We also participate in outdoor activities like sledding and singing folk songs. It’s a time of joy and community, and I cherish these moments spent with loved ones.

Recently, I attended the Victory Day parade, which celebrates the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II. The atmosphere was filled with pride and respect as veterans marched, and people waved flags. I enjoyed watching the military displays and listening to the patriotic songs. It was a powerful experience that reminded me of the importance of remembering our history and honoring those who fought for our freedom.
